Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai Mines

The Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, the flagship project of PanAust Limited, is situated within the Phu Bia Mining Contract Area in Laos, approximately 140 kilometers north of the capital city, Vientiane.

In close proximity, about 25 kilometers to the west, lies the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation. Since its commencement in 2012, Ban Houayxai has been operating an open-pit mine, feeding ore to a carbon-in-leach recovery process plant with a capacity of four million tonnes. Both mines feature dedicated tailings storage dams, ensuring efficient and safe waste management.

The Situation

PanAust has engaged Sixense Oceania to implement a reliable software solution aimed at addressing significant performance issues encountered with their previous system. The main objective is to effectively handle large volumes of sensors and data spread across two mine sites and two tailings storage dams, each experiencing daily operational changes and developments.

What We’ve Delivered

Sixense Oceania is providing Beyond Monitoring to integrate a large volume of survey and geotechnical sensors for real-time data reporting, alarms, and dashboards. Beyond Monitoring has been set up with intelligent data acquisition parsers to manage this evolution in sensors in an efficient and simplified way. Custom dashboards have been created to track Key Performance
Indicators that are important to the mine operations team.

A key selling point of the system was its high uptime and capacity to manage the full sensor load, maintaining operational efficiency. Beyond Monitoring outperforms the previous system, especially under full load conditions.
