The Darlington Upgrade Project

The Darlington Upgrade Project in South Australia involves reconfiguration of approximately 3.3km of the Main South Road. It is part of the North-South Corridor project and provides significant benefits to the region, such as reduced travel times and improved productivity for freight transport. The project links key terminals including Port of Adelaide, Adelaide Airport and Islington intermodal terminal.

Post-Construction Monitoring

Gateway South, a joint venture between Fulton Hogan and Laing O’Rourke, has contracted Sixense to deliver remote monitoring services for the walls and road surface of a section of the Darlington Upgrade Project. The monitoring services are being provided for a duration of four years, starting after the construction has been completed.

Sixense supplied monitoring sensors and data acquisition system, including tiltmeters and Cyclops ATS products, to clients who installed them on-site with remote support from our team. All sensors are automated with wireless data transfer, enabling seamless data transmission to Sixense servers.

What we’ve delivered

Monitoring is being carried out using a combination of structural monitoring sensors, including monitoring prisms and tiltmeters. Additionally, a satellite radar interferometry InSAR study covering an area of about 3.4 km² provides the monitoring of deformation along the area of study to gather background movement and settlement data.

The results are delivered through the Beyond Monitoring web-based platform which enables integration between ATLAS InSAR data and classic monitoring methods. The combination of these monitoring techniques, along with analysis of historical data, ensure continuous and real-time monitoring of the evolution of any deformation.
