Survey the condition of structures and assess their behaviour

The maintenance plan for nuclear facilities involves our teams in regularly inspecting civil engineering structures to assess their condition and performance relative to their required functions.

These monitoring operations guarantee full compliance with all applicable nuclear installation safety rules.

Coating inspections

We inspect all types of special coating (composite skins, resins, paints and metal liners) applied to an equally diverse range of substrates, identify issues and recommend solutions to guarantee the functional effectiveness and durability of coatings.

  • Conducting visual inspections
  • Qualifying identified defects in accordance with current standards and client best practices
  • Analysing the causal factors behind the emergence of defects

Our flagship projects include:

  • Inspections of additional waterproofing measures applied to EDF Reactor Buildings (since 2004)
  • Inspections of surface treatments (in the spaces between the containment vessels of the P4, P’4 & N4 classes of reactors)
  • Inspections of the KER SEK tarpaulin coverings (Cruas, Paluel, Chinon, etc.)
  • Inspections of containment vessel metal liners (Chinon, Gravelines, etc.)

Inspections of civil engineering structures

Our teams conduct a range of inspection campaigns for all types of nuclear facility structures. They are fully accredited to work in areas of ionising radiation and in restricted environments but require additional personal protection equipment (SCBA, ventilated hood, bubble suit, etc.). We analyse all structural and functional issues identified during inspections as the basis to prepare corrective and/or preventive maintenance plans and guarantee the safety and durability of the structures concerned.

  • Inspecting of all or part of the civil engineering structural elements
  • Qualifying of defects detected in accordance with current standards and/or local client processes
  • Classifying the hazardous nature of defects relative to the structure concerned and relevant benchmark best practices
  • Reporting defects identified
  • Monitoring defect development

Our team of around thirty people in 10 locations has been working since 2013 on civil engineering structural defect inspections as part of Basic Preventive Maintenance Plans:

  • Civil Engineering for the CP0 CPY class of reactors (until 2016) and the P4, P’4 & N4 class (since 2016)
  • PAI (Fire Action Plan) for the CP0 CPY class of reactors (until 2016) and the P4, P’4 & N4 class (since 2016)

Successful projects and teams throughout France

Our team of 30 people working across 10 sites have successfully completed the following inspections:

  • additional sealing on EDF Reactor Buildings (since 2004)
  • upper skins (spaces between P4, P’4 & N4 series reactor building enclosures)
  • tarpaulin coatings on KER SEK tanks (CNPE Cruas, Paluel, Chinon, etc.)
  • metal liner for enclosure tests (Chinon, Gravelines, etc.)

Since 2013, we have also been involved in inspections of civil engineering faults in relation to Basic Preventive Maintenance Plans, including:

  • Civil engineering for series CP0 CPY (until 2016) and series P4, P’4 & N4 (since 2016)
  • Fire action plan for series CP0 CPY (until 2016) and series P4, P’4 & N4 (since 2016)
